Our Story – Sweet Stop
My name is Lupita Villanueva Beltrán, and I began working here in March 2011 as a cashier. It was in this place that I met my husband. Perhaps destiny had already been written. Love and our own story led us back to what was then known as JP's Bakery. This bakery now represents the third generation and carries a long and meaningful history. On January 1, 2016, filled with love and faith, Ramón and I made one of the most important decisions of our lives. With great enthusiasm, but also fear and nervousness due to our young age—I was 22, originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, and he was 24, born in Eagle Pass, but both of us raised in Seguin—and newly married since 2012, we decided to take this big step. Some time earlier, we had moved to West Texas, where we worked for three years. However, the desire to return home never left us. After finishing the construction of our home in 2015, we made the difficult but brave decision to mortgage our house in order to purchase this business from the Amador family, a couple who believed in us and trusted that we could continue this legacy. God brought us back to this bakery, right to the place where our love story began. Today, more than 10 years later, the bakery continues to count on Jimmy, our baker, who is more than a friend—he is family. Jimmy has been here since 2007, along with a team we deeply appreciate. We know that working in a bakery is not easy. Every day, more than 4,000 pieces are made, and competing with large manufacturers can be challenging. Even so, we do it with joy, pride, and love. We continue serving this beautiful community because we love our traditions, our food, our people, and our bakery. It fills us with pride to be part of the tables of Seguin and the surrounding areas. That love pushed us to believe even more in this business. Today, we are not only the town's favorite bakery, but we also offer flour tortillas, homemade ice cream, and other products, supplying various local restaurants and nearby communities. Thanks to the support and affection of the community, we can say that this bakery has over 70 to 80 years of history. The exact founding date is unknown, as the founder, Mr. Macías and his wife, are no longer with us. However, through the stories of our customers, the Macías family, and Mr. JP, the second owner until 2015, it is estimated that the bakery opened sometime between 1950 and 1955. This is not only our story; it is the story of all the longtime residents of Seguin. People 80, 90, and even over 100 years old share their memories with us: “My parents used to bring us here after church to enjoy sweet bread every Sunday.” Sunday after Sunday, it was—and still is—a beautiful tradition. Others remember waking up each morning to the aroma of cinnamon and vanilla, that sweet scent that still comes from the old Blodgett oven. Whether for celebrations, gatherings, or even the farewell of a loved one, it is an honor to be part of every home, workplace, school, and community. In the end, all human beings share the same need: to be nourished. Bread is the protagonist of our story, and the tortillas on our tables continue to unite thousands of families, friends, and coworkers. Every day that someone enjoys something made by us, we give thanks for the continued support of Sweet Stop, a sweet stop, where our motto is “Sweetening Your Day.” A place where new stories can begin. Thank you once again for your business, your trust, and for being part of our family.
